My Story
9 years ago when my oldest was born, I started teaching beginner horse riding lessons and taking people out on trail rides. It was a great way to be at home with him and help pay for the horses. It has become a wonderful side business, that also includes workshops and camps. Very private, always outside, fun and laid back and most importantly safe.
I take pride in being different from other riding instructors because I don't only have experience with horses and other animals but I have experience working with children of all different abilities as well. I have worked as a Paraprofessional at a few different schools for many years. I love working with kids but my lessons and trail rides are for adults as well.
I think it is important to include grooming, tacking up and caring for the horse in the lesson. This teaches responsibility, work ethic and helps the child bond with the horse before they get on. Grooming, tacking up and riding are also great for building fine motor skills, coordination skills, improving focus, building confidence and social skills! There is something very empowering about befriending and riding a large animal, making it a huge confidence booster. It is also very important to me that children are taught the proper way to treat horses and other animals. I like to teach beginners about horse behavior right from the start because I feel it will help them become one with the horse and a better rider in the future.
We are are slowly turning into a farm that offers programs focused not only on horses, but nature and farming too. My goal is to give children an opportunity to get off their screens and have fun outside in a safe and fun way.
I went to school at UNH for Animal Science and I focused on Animal Behavior and the Human/Animal Bond. I am certified in Animal Assisted Activity and Therapy.
